Dated but necessary

There is a newer version of this book, but this one is relatively easy to read and quick reference. It is a good starting point for any student beginning the study of theory in counseling. I used it as a basic tool and then went on to further research what was written. Also, the authors also seem interested in educating, not just selling their book.

A must for counseling students

I was struggling to develop a guiding modality for my work. A professor recommended this book to me and I just cannot say enough about how helpful this book is.
Each chapter presents a perspective in clear, practical terms, including client role, practitioner role, and appropriate techniques. By the end I was able to narrow my options on what my guiding principle will be. I knew what absolutely would not work for me, and had a good grasp of modalities I wanted to explore further.
